Swim to Survive

at Genesis Place
Swim to Survive is a participation based program through lifesaving society designed to work on basic swimming ability through three skills: roll into deep water, tread water for 1 minute and swim 50 meters. This program is open to new swimmers and experienced swimmers!
Details
Swim to Survive is different than regular swimming lessons, and not a replacement for them. Swim to Survive teaches the necessary skills to survive an unexpected fall into deep water.

The program will provide a certificate to each student, this is in reach to all students! This certificate will recognize your child has achieved the swim to survive standard, has achieved the swim to survive standard in a lifejacket or has practiced the swim to survive skills.

Due to the nature of the program, attendees will be separated based on swim ability rather than age, upon registration please choose a time slot for your students that appropriately matches their swimming ability. Students will be divided into skill level to complete the program. A swim assessment will be conducted on the first day and this may determine which time slot your child continues on to for the duration of the 4 sessions. (Beginner 10:30am start or Experienced 11:15am start )

Horse Powered Reading® integrates social-emotional learning with academics; thus allowing students see and experience reading with their entire mind, body and emotions by creating metaphors for the skills involved in reading. Students interact with horses from the ground, while using toys and props to identify obstacles and learn five critical reading skills - phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Horse Powered Reading® helps children build confidence, promote self-efficacy, foster connections, learn valuable reading skills, and carry new skills into their education.

Expect to be awed by our insightful ponies and expect to have fun!

This event consists of Equine Assisted Learning activities with horses. During each session, there will be a short briefing after which we will head out to work with the ponies. This is followed by a debriefing where we will bring together our learning.

Important: Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather as the activities take place outdoors. You might consider dressing your child in layers on cooler days. As well, please wear sturdy closed-toed footwear as we will be working directly with horses.

Mandatory: Please ensure you sign and complete the provided waiver and photo release documents. These can be returned to Sandra Graham at the first class or directly emailed to [email protected].
